Cellular Shades

Any window shades that are insulated will help you save on energy costs as well as increase the quality and comfort of your home. If you’re looking for options, cellular shades (often referred to as honeycomb shades) are well known for their energy efficiency.

Cellular shades are made of a solid fabric that stacks like an accordion. There are two sheets of fabric and in between are individual cells or tiny empty pockets of the shades that trap air. When the shades are pulled down, the pockets trap the air and help insulate the room. These cells protect your home or room against heat absorption in the summer and heat loss in the winter. The cells also run parallel to the seam to resemble traditional pleated shades and from the outside are viewed as a crisp window covering.

There are so many different kinds of cellular shades to choose from. These window shades come in a variety of color and light filtering options. There are also variations of insulating qualities depending on the cell sizes.  Most people assume that cellular shades are energy efficient because of the cells, but in fact the fabric thickness and weave also plays a role in the quality and of level of efficiency in your shades.

Cellular shades are most often operated with a cord loop, but there are cordless options and even remote controlled options. Some open top to bottom and can be controlled and set on timers for light and sun control.

Cellular shades are a great window shade option. They are energy efficient, extremely durable and provide a traditional, yet modern feel to your room. Also, with the many options of fabric and colors, it’s easy to match your décor. You can also add draperies or curtains to the outside for a different look and feel, depending on your personal touch.
